Cleura’s cloud central when the digital care service AsthmaTuner helps more asthmatics to a symptom-free life
AsthmaTuner is a digital service for diagnosing and treating asthma developed by Swedish MediTuner. 10% of the world's population is estimated to have asthma and the service is designed based on the vision that all asthmatics should be able to live without symptoms. All patient data is managed with full integrity in Cleura’s Compliant Cloud.
AsthmaTuner's vision is to deliver future-proof asthma care to both patients and healthcare providers worldwide. Through a unique and clinically tested service, which combines a digital lung function meter (so-called spirometer) with an app on the phone, asthmatics can easily test their lung function and ensure that they take the right dose of asthma medicine daily. AsthmaTuner is also aimed at patients being examined for asthma and both facilitates and speeds up the examination. Thus, the service digitizes the care chain for an entire patient group.
"The driving force is that no one should have to go with untreated asthma and that everyone who has been diagnosed with asthma should receive the right care. Our goal is therefore to help both asthmatics and healthcare providers achieve this", says Eric Alhanko, CEO of AsthmaTuner.

Secure cloud storage of patient data is crucial
As a health care provider, it is crucial to ensure that all patient data is handled and stored securely and in accordance with the strict requirements, rules and laws that surround the industry. In light of these requirements, AsthmaTuner is delivered from Cleura Compliant Cloud - a cloud service for organizations with high security and compliance requirements.
"We always work closely with the region's or hospital's data protection officer when we start a new collaboration. In this context, Cleura's secure cloud service with built-in compliance is central to the acceptance of the service", Eric explains.
He continues: "Since we handle patient data, we have to comply with both GDPR and other data security laws in the markets where we offer AsthmaTuner, which works perfectly well in Cleura's cloud".

Secure digital healthcare services crucial to meet future healthcare needs
AsthmaTuner is already procured by about ten healthcare regions in Sweden, such as Västra Götalandsregionen and Region Jönköpings län. The service is also offered through several hospitals in Norway.
To streamline asthma care and simplify diagnosis, a clinical study is currently underway in Region Stockholm. The study is a research collaboration run by the Karolinska Institute, and about 10 health centers and their patients who use AsthmaTuner for a faster and safer diagnosis.
"It is incredibly positive that Region Stockholm is conducting this research collaboration. We are aware that health care, especially in Stockholm, is strained and here AsthmaTuner can free up time for other care", says Eric.
In order to give more patients and healthcare providers access to AsthmaTuner, further expansion into the world awaits. The expansion will take place with Cleura as a cloud platform.
In April 2023, AsthmaTuner was named 'Best Digital Technology for Asthma' by EFA, a collaborative organization representing 45 patient associations in 26 different countries in asthma and other respiratory diseases.
"Digital healthcare services will be needed on a large scale to meet our future healthcare needs. At the same time, the healthcare sector is particularly dependent on solutions that do not risk patient safety or personal privacy. In this context, AsthmaTuner is a very good example, and it is gratifying to see that their technology on our cloud services has had such a great impact and is now spreading further in the world", says Johan Christenson, Head of Innovation at Cleura.
